CAPC ( Canadian Assessment Personal Characteristics ) is an assessment designed to support selection and recruitment for educational institutions and professional organizations.
CAPC is a 90 minute, web-based, situational judgment test (SJT). It is a component of the application process used by certain medical schools, health sciences, education, and veterinary programs in an effort to evaluate your personal and professional characteristics.

CAPC specifically looks at 10 different competencies:

collaboration

When you think about collaboration, you probably think of working in a group or being on a team with other people. This is true! But to have excellent collaboration skills, there are many related competencies you must also master.

communication

Communication is a concept that makes sense to all of us. It’s being able to talk to people, right?
Well, it’s actually more than that.
Being an excellent communicator is a multi-faceted skill. It means that you are able to converse with people in a compassionate, respectful and culturally safe manner. It means that you are an active listener, responding not only to what the other person is saying, but also noticing and responding to their body language.

Empathy

Empathy has been a buzzword for the last decade or two. Beyond being kind and considerate to others though, what exactly does empathy entail? To cultivate and demonstrate empathy, there are a number of behaviors and attitudes you should develop.

equity

When you hear the word “equity” you probably think of “equality,” but equity is a deeper and more complex concept. Equality is each of us getting the same, no matter where we are or where we want to go. Equity is each of us getting what we need, based on where we are and where we want to go.

ethics

The term “ethics” is likely very familiar to you. It is at the core of every health professional’s practice. Ethics is a multidimensional concept, encompassing not just behaviors such as acting with integrity, honesty, and morality, but also the reasoning behind the behaviors.

Motivation

We all know that a personal trainer or a parent trying to potty-train their child need to use the skill of motivation-but how exactly does motivation apply to healthcare professionals?

problem solving

We have all solved problems during our day-to-day lives, but the CAPC test screens for superior problem solving skills. To stand out as an exceptional problem solver, you need to be cognizant of important strategies to understand problems, to simplify problems, to determine the cause of problems, to utilize external aids effectively and to choose between multiple solutions.

Professionalism

Professionalism in a healthcare setting encompasses a commitment to patients, a commitment to society, a commitment to the profession and a commitment to self. In the healthcare field, you are witness to the miracles and tragedies of life, and in a position of utmost trust; professional conduct acknowledges this trust as a privilege and nurtures it.

Resilience

Resilience, simply, is the ability to bounce back after challenges and grow stronger. It’s the capacity to respond to stress in a healthy way so that you can achieve your goals with a minimal mental and physical cost.

self awareness.

Self-awareness is a skill that we gain from a young age. We learn to understand our inner world and the effect we have on others. As a health professional, this means that you must be aware of your limitations and willing to disclose them when necessary.
